Viking Charters: About Captain Allan

There are few like Captain Allan of Viking Charters, he has been fishing the Ucluelet and Pacific waters around Vancouver Island since 1957. Back then Allan started as a deckhand, and soon knew this would be lifetime aspiration. Allan soon became a Captain of his own boat commercially fishing for Salmon on the Pacific Ocean.

Living in the Ucluelet area since 1945 Captain Allan starting fishing the area in 1956, from standing on the shores and catching Rock Cod, Halibut, and Salmon to navigating the tidal waters Ucluelet. Captain Ron has spent his entire live fishing this area.

22 years ago Captain Allan decided it was time to bring the excitement of fishing these incredible waters to tourists from around the world and Viking Charters was started. With such extensive experience fishing the Pacific Rim, Captain Allan knows the best locations for catching “the big one”.

August was the month of hunting for fish off the west coast of Vancouver Island; we had booked the same captain from Ucluelet as we had 3 years ago, and he was as good as ever.

This Viking master knew how to turn the crank of everyone on board, from tormenting this grandma about the size of fish to throw back, to parrying with the grandsons about sleeping too much!!

For our part, we all appreciated his great expertise and knowledge, he was a master guide indeed, Beth, Jacquie, Josh and James were with us for the two days; we rented a duplex together, and had a great time.

The captain told us, “If you come you’ll need a forklift to move your catch!”, and so it was with 29 fish between us—three large fish boxes full, all packed in shaved ice.
